With her participatory installation We Make Years Out of Hours, Lina Lapelytė transforms the historic hall of ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof into a space for collective action and singing as part of the second CHANEL Commission. Lapelytė is known for her meditative works, which combine sound, rituals and collaborative practice. We Make Years Out of Hours is a living monument to time, care and coexistence. The exhibition transcends boundaries between sculpture and performance, the individual and the collective. By actively involving the audience, the participatory format emphasises the concept of the open museum as the theme of the ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof’s 30th anniversary. The CHANEL Commission at ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof is an annual initiative that enables artists to realise large-scale projects.
This is the 19th in a series of publications accompanying solo exhibitions of contemporary artists at ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. In addition to exhibition views and images of artworks, it comprises a curatorial introduction by Sam Bardaouil, an extensive interview by Raimundas Malašauskas with Lina Lapelytė, poems by Defne Ayas, Lucia Pietroiusti and Asia Bazdyrieva as well as the libretto for the performances.

Mit ihrer partizipativen Installation We Make Years Out of Hours wandelt Lina Lapelytė die historische Halle des ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof für die zweite CHANEL Commission in einen Ort des gemeinsamen Handelns und ­Singens. Lapelytė ist bekannt für ihre meditativen Werke, die Klang, Rituale und Arbeit mit einander verbinden. We Make Years Out of Hours ist ein lebendiges Monument für Zeit, Fürsorge und Koexistenz. Die Ausstellung übertritt Grenzen zwischen Skulptur und Performance, Individuum und Kollektiv. Das partizipative Format betont mit der aktiven Einbeziehung des Publikums das Verständnis des offenen Museums als Motto des 30. Jubiläums des ­­Hamburger ­Bahnhof. Die CHANEL ­Commission im ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof ist eine jährliche Initiative, die Künstler*innen ermöglicht, großformatige Projekte umzusetzen.
Dies ist die 19.  Ausgabe einer Reihe von Begleitpublikationen zu Einzelausstellungen zeitgenössischer Künstler*innen im ­Hamburger ­Bahnhof – Nationalgalerie der Gegenwart. Neben Ausstellungsansichten und Werkabbildungen enthält sie eine kuratorische Einführung von Sam ­Bardaouil, ein umfangreiches Interview von ­Raimundas Malašauskas mit Lina Lapelytė, Gedichte von Defne Ayas, Lucia ­Pietroiusti und Asia ­Bazdyrieva sowie das Libretto der Performances.
