Si tratta di un modo di raccontare l’ineffabilità e la grandezza dell’esperienza mistica che, secondo l’opinione diffusa in quel tempo, solo mediante questo genere di metafore può essere comunicata ai fedeli cristiani. La ricerca prende in esame alcuni noti testi appartenenti a Bernardo di Clairvaux, Guglielmo di Saint-Thierry, Bonaventura da Bagnoregio, Angela da Foligno. Anche gli Actus Beati Francisci sono motivo di studio relativamente alla tematica in oggetto. In modo particolare, il lettore avrà la possibilità di apprezzare le diverse sfumature di una terminologia che va a rappresentare una fase del cammino contemplativo-misticoche è indice di una notevole maturità spirituale e che il credente può acquisire nelproprio cammino di fede percorrendo un preciso itinerario di perfezione.
Summary – The Author examines the terminology related to embrace, one of themost typical medieval expressions of mystical-spousal symbolism. It is a way ofrecounting the ineffability and grandeur of the mystical experience that, accordingto the thinking at that time, could be communicated to the faithful only by this kindof metaphor. The study examines some familiar texts of Bernard of Clairvaux,William of St. Thierry, Bonaventure of Bagnoregio and Angela of Foligno. TheActus Beati Francisci could well be studied in relation to this theme. In a particularway, the reader will be able to appreciate the various nuances of a terminologyused to represent one phase of a contemplative-mystical journey that is indicativeof considerable spiritual maturity and that the believer can attain in his own journeyof faith by following a precise path of perfection.
