ABSTRACT – The Luke’s portrait of Mary Magdalene. In the world of characters from
Luke’s work, the figure of Mary from Magdala always fills a significant role that is often
misunderstood or misrepresented. Thanks to the help of the technique of characterization
that developed in research of narratology, we consider the present study in order to review
the rhetorical-narrative function that the author gives Mary: she is depicted as the disciple
who, with other women, follows Jesus faithfully from his preaching in Galilee to his appearance
after the resurrection. In fact, in Luke’s account, Mary Magdalene has the function
to testify and to ensure continuity between the crucified Jesus and the risen Christ.
