ABSTRACT
New atheisms in the theological horizon. This contribution tries to presentin a concise and simple way the incidence of atheism and the emergence of a new disciplinecalled atheology in the contemporary cultural context. Without stretching excessivelyon the explanation of the different forms of atheism today existing, the author triesto delineate the lines of an existential theology that knows how to enter in dialogue withthe new forms of atheism, recalling the thought of Bernard Lonergan that has particularlyvalued, the turn toward the subject and the category of historicity, in full tuning with thespirit of renovation of the second Vatican Council. The dialogue with the new forms ofatheism offers several points of discussion for the theological work of our times in a continuousrethinking of the role of theology, which must necessarily confronts with new demandsof our time.
